Fall 2022 Fashion Trends Worth the Investment

Written by Grace Mason, graphic by Sarah Nash

It’s officially the start of a new season, and with each new season, fashion trends are bound to arise. Due to the rise of digital media and fast fashion- not to mention Gen Z’s infamously short attention span- trends are fleeting now more than ever. It seems as soon as something is in, it's on its way back out.

So when a new season approaches, it’s fair to wonder what trends are worth participating in and what trends will die out almost as soon as you open that package you ordered.

After analyzing both fall 2022 runway shows and the trends taking over social media, I have pulled together a list of trends that I believe are worth investing in.

Leather Jackets

Leather jackets were all over the runway this season. Yet again, the 90s grunge aesthetic is making a comeback, and leather jackets are at the front line. Whether it’s oversized, a biker jacket, or a bomber style, you can’t go wrong investing in a good leather jacket.

Nordstrom, H&M, and ASOS have some amazing options all varying in the price range.

Blazers

Blazers were also draped, worn, and held on the runway this season. Having a good staple blazer is a must this fall season. Wearing an oversized blazer over a crop top in the warmer months of fall is a fun take on the trend. And as winter approaches, throw a coat over your favorite blazer for a modern layering moment.

Try H&M and Zara for some affordable blazers to achieve this look.

Sheer

Sheer fabric was another trend that took over the runway this fall.

The Fendi 2022 show is the perfect reference for this; it was truly mesmerizing the number of ways sheer fabrics were used in the show. Sheer pants, jumpsuits, skirts, gloves, and more were all displayed at the show in Milan this season.

Maybe don’t go out and construct a wardrobe made up entirely of sheer. But investing in a cute sheer top to pair over a bralette would be a perfect nod to this trend for the fall.

Allsaints and the Superdown (both shoppable on Revolve) have some perfect options for this.

Wide Leg Pants

Since the 90s-inspired androgyny is in style right now, wide-leg pants are everywhere. Loose-fitted and super comfortable,  this is a trend I don't see going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

Aritizia and Asos have some perfect staple wide-leg pants for this season. *Also note, Asos has some amazing plus-size and petite size options for this trend as well.

Basic White Tees

White tank tops are the farthest thing from being a revolutionary fashion statement. However, they were all over the runway this season. The classic plain white tee was featured in both Prada and Bottega Vennetas’s Fall 2022 runway shows with little styling over the tank.

Though most everyone likely owns a white tank, maybe consider trading the one you've had for years out for a nicer one that's a more trendy cut.

Telfar and Skims have some perfect basic tanks you can’t go wrong with.

Loafers & Mary Janes

Lastly for shoes, Loafers and Mary Janes have continued onto the runway scene this year. These basic shoes are easy to style, very functional, and another perfect piece to invest in.

Doc Martens has both Loafers and Mary Janes that will be sure to last for years to come.

So, if you're looking for some new pieces to add to your fall wardrobe, be aware of what you’re purchasing. There is nothing wrong with staying fashion-forward and up to date on trends, but it’s important to be smart and sustainable when purchasing new items.

Invest in pieces that are on trend but will also be continually worn for the months & years to come.
