Animal print is back and instead of seeing it on “Jersey Shore,” we are seeing it on the runway. Known as the ‘it’ print for 2024, leopard print is popping up everywhere from runways to brands like Adidas with their recent release of the leopard-printed Sambas. Prints like these add an expensive flare to outfits and a pop of fun to any neutral base.

Wearing animal prints was originally a sign of power due to its expense and was often worn for protection. Something interesting about leopard print in particular is its ability to be a symbol of power and sleaze simultaneously. Yet, it is still a popular trend that never seems to disappear.

In the 60s, wearing leopard print was seen to be flashy and cheap, but when Jackie Kennedy struck society by wearing a leopard skin coat, the societal belief surrounding prints at the time shifted. Prints like leopard print and zebra print have had a long history but its finding a way back in style. With the comeback of the indie sleaze trend from the early 2010s, leopard print now adds a bold touch to any basic outfit. However, it can be difficult to style.

When styling leopard print, remember that a little goes a long way. A simple printed dress is perfect for a night out. Pair it with a long coat and heels, and you will look ready for the runway. While roaming through any second-hand shop, keep an eye out for any leopard-printed fur coats that are cool-toned. They go with any simple black outfit to make you look expensive and chic while roaming downtown.

Sporty pieces are also being incorporated with prints. Oversized pants, baseball hats, tote bags and sneakers are some ways you can add a pop of print to any outfit to create that sleek feeling.

Zebra print is also expected to make a comeback. The eye-catching effect of zebra print has lived on from the 80s and is used to add a fun, bold pop to tight dresses and even nails. The black and white pattern is a standout piece that is easy to style since it is a combination of neutrals. Try pairing zebra print with a bright pink shoe or bag to create a fierce look.

Printed bags are making a comeback as a simple, yet classy way to add prints to any wardrobe without making as bold of a statement. Of course, you can go big or go home as we have seen a rise in printed coats on the runway by Dior and Dolce & Gabbana.
