For years, natural and classic makeup has ruled the beauty world, but sometimes it is nice to try something fresh and bold. The HBO hit show, Euphoria, looks at troubled teens and their battles with drugs, sex, and development into adult life. The show transformed much more than the television world. It pushed the envelope for style, character development, and most importantly make-up. The Euphoria makeup trend intensifies natural cosmetics with pops of color, shapes, and glitter!
Although color cosmetics have been a craze among YouTube stars and celebs, the Euphoria make-up trend inspires something different— contradiction. No one fits one narrative and shouldn’t have to. You can be polished and have an edgy side. You can be both feminine and masculine. You can be bold yet somehow safe.
These looks build an aesthetic that individualizes each character.
Maddy:
Maddy is a confident, but still sensitive teen. She is known for her harmonized looks that flash from the top of her head to the soles of her feet. Maddy’s looks are clean and powerful. The use of intense colored eyeliner and glossed over lips show that someone can be strong while also soft.
Jules:
Jules is a transwoman that has always struggled with identity but begins to flourish into a confident woman. She has a tousled and less polished look. The use of creative shapes around the eye and blinding cheek highlights make heads turn but still feels approachable.
Kat:
Kat is a teen girl exploring her newfound sexuality. Kat’s goth inspired make-up pairs dark hues with bold color. Attempting to cover up the girl she used to be, Kat uses sharp edges to embody her newfound persona.
Rue:
Rue is a drug-addicted high-school student who despite her tough exterior is just struggling to fit in. Rue, unlike the rest of the characters on this list, maintains a natural look throughout the show. However, it is hard to ignore the beautiful glitter eyes that she displays in the show. The make-up perfectly depicts both the sorrow and happiness we all experience.
The Euphoria make-up trend inspires individuality. While some may feel more comfortable as a Maddy who embodies strength or a Rue who wears her heart on her sleeve, the Euphoria make-up trend is what the individual makes it.
