How to wear soap brows

Story and photos by Nia Harrison

Typically, when I want to make a statement, I go for a bold lip, but since masks are mandated in Springfield, my lipstick has become useless. On the bright side, now my brows have their time to shine. I've had the same brow routine since high school and recently, I decided I wanted to switch things up. I started going for the boyfriend brow- a natural, thicker style. Trying to achieve this look with makeup is possible, but can take a lot of time and work. I also have oily skin in my t-zone, so my eyebrows never look the same by the end of the day.

I came across a make-up artist on the discover page of Instagram and was speechless at how ~perfectly~ smooth and full her eyebrows were. I desperately needed to know her secret. After combing through the comment section, I found out she uses a technique called the soap brow. This technique might sound strange at first, but the results are fabulous.

First, you take a wet bar of soap and apply it to your brow using a spoolie. Once there’s a decent amount of soap on the spoolie, you comb the hairs up for your desired shape. I recommend a translucent bar of soap, so when it dries it doesn't leave a white residue. The Neutrogena Facial Cleansing Bar or Pears work great because they’re super gentle and work perfectly for sensitive skin. The soap acts like glue so your brows will stay in place for most of the day. Through trial and error, I did some experimenting and found that hair gel and lace front glue work just as well. But use at your own risk if you have sensitive skin! If you do decide to test it out, start off with small amounts. Soaping up your brows helps to achieve a natural and fuller brow and while using little to no makeup. If you still want to go back in and add makeup, it’s super easy to take a pomade or pencil and add some finishing touches.

*Neutragena can be found at Target, and Pears can be found at Walmart.

There is truly never a bad time to put all the attention on the brows, but during the mask era- it’s essential. Since doing half face makeup is trending, you have to make sure the eyebrows are receiving some extra love. If you’re like me and have been desperately looking for the secret to the perfect natural brow, soap brows are the way to go.
