Grab your hats and pull up your bootstraps because we’ve got a new trend on the rise this summer. You may have seen the“coastal grandmother” style that swept TikTok in summer of 2022, but a new aesthetically pleasing trend takes the coastal grandmother trend and adds a little bit of that Western flare to it. Unlike other fashion trends on TikTok, the coastal cowgirl aesthetic can be accomplished by using a combination of pieces you have stored away in your closet, which saves you a buck and makes it easy to nail the trend flawlessly every time.

The coastal cowgirl trend combines the simple, breezy look of “coastal grandmother” with an edgy feel to create a style that is easy to customize and make your own. To achieve the timeless, romantic aesthetic, pair together three of any of these closet staples: button-downs, denim, flowy skirts and dresses, cowboy boots and hats, leather jackets, belts, and any light-colored knitwear. The trend also focuses on a color palette that includes any combination of beige, white, light blue, forest green, brown, black, red, light yellow, and even rusty orange, so if you’re in a pinch, try picking out pieces you have in these colors to see what works.

For more inspiration, we’ve curated a coastal cowboy guide to accomplishing all the vibes you can this summer, while still encapsulating the trend.

One item to invest in to fit the trend is a pair of trusty cowgirl boots. A pair of boots can dress up any plain sweater and jeans, but if you don’t own cowboy attire, don’t fret–any white tank top paired with denim shorts and a leather jacket will accomplish your coastal cowgirl goals perfectly and leave you with a classy comfortable look.

For any everyday on-the-go outfit, black cowgirl boots, black denim shorts, a corset top, and a leather jacket will give you that clean-girl model-off-duty vibe you’re looking for.

If you’re going out on the town, show off a flowy white dress with just a pair of boots! Or you can add a knitted cardigan and you’ve got a bohemian casual version of coastal cowgirl.

For a vintage look, you can accomplish your coastal cowboy look by wearing a maxi denim skirt with any ruffled or silk blouse and boots.

To elevate any of your bikini looks this summer, you can just add a cowboy hat and pair it with denim shorts or even overalls!
