As the seasons switch, the closets flip. Cold weather brings coats, hats, and warm garments while summer closets consist of short pants, tank tops, and sandals. As winter clothes go out, summer clothes roll in… but not while winter is in the summer!

Heavy attire in the summer is a concept that can be challenging to grasp. When the temperature rises outside,  less clothing is back in style. Warm winter clothing worn during summer climates dates back to the 1800s. Victorian men and women wore layers of clothing. While stratified in petticoats, shawls, hats, and jackets, Victorians found ways to remain cool in the summer by eating ice cream, using fans, and staying shaded.

Combining the summer with the winter is an idea that has been recycled throughout the 21st century’s television and media. Disney’s Phineas and Ferb had an episode about “swinter”  which is a season that combines aspects of winter and summer. Mickey Mouse had an episode centered on the theme of Christmas occurring in July. Social media influencers hopped on the season-switching trend. TikTok star Aliyahsinterlude wore Moon Boots on the beach, and Kylie Jenner wore a bikini in the snow.

Who said you can’t rock a fur hat while it’s 80 degrees? Or wear a heavy coat when the sun beams? Winter fashion basics can be styled and worn in the summer. Bundling up in the scorching heat is amazing… especially when your outfit blazes more than the weather.  Dress up your summer skirts and tanks with a long jacket and some fur. And you can’t forget about gloves. Don’t be a bummer, heat up your summer by adding a puffer jacket, fur leg warmers, and hats to accessorize your outfit.
