Have you ever seen an outfit you loved and thought, “Wow I would never have put those pieces together, I wish I could pick out outfits like those.” Well, look no further!  If you are anything like me and enjoy dressing both masculine and feminine, this can be a fun and easy way to combine both sides of your wardrobe. This is your guide to fun clothing combos that play with androgyny and will freshen the wardrobe you already have.

The recent trend of jorts jeans and overalls, specifically with a baggier fit, are worn by  people presenting all along the spectrum of gender. These items that are considered more masculine can be paired with more feminine garments such as lacey tank tops to add contrast and provide a visually appealing silhouette. The “baggy pants, little top” pairing has been in and out of trend for decades, and there is a good reason for that!

If you are more into a baggy-on-baggy look, there are still great ways to use traditionally gendered silhouette combos to add dimension to your outfit. Pairing a loose button-up or baggy tee with a long skirt is an example. This adds an interesting silhouette to try in your outfit. Styling a tie with this outfit can further build on the androgyny of the look due to the historical connection with the button-up in formal men’s clothing.

Another combination that has slowly started to trend again is wearing dresses or skirts over jeans, a popular combo in the early 2000s. While it has been out of style for many years, it has stayed alive among those in the alternative fashion communities, and is now making a comeback in the mainstream. Wearing a dress over pants not only looks very cool, but is also a great way to get more wear out of dresses and skirts too short for colder seasons. Wearing pants under your summer dress in the spring can be a way to embrace the sunny weather, even if it is still 50 degrees outside.
Clothing has typically been a representation of gender expression throughout history. Although we have evolved as a society, we still have a ways to go. Specifically, younger generations are becoming more and more accepting of dressing outside of gender norms.By breaking these norms, not only are you creating unique and stylish outfits, but you are forging a path to finding your most authentic self!
