Wrapped For Summer

There are few things in this world that are more refreshing than putting away your space-eating sweaters and giant, unflattering yet warm, pants at the end of winter. Clearing space to bring out the bright colors and fun shapes of summer clothing can be an incredibly cathartic experience. However, you may want to look twice at the items you plan on putting away before you lock them up until next season — your new favorite summer accessory may be hiding amongst the ranks.

Scarves are practical in the winter, keeping our sensitive faces and necks protected on the nastiest of winter days. They are also a great fashion statement, a way to add a pop of color to what could otherwise be a boring or repetitive wardrobe. While scarves may not be as practical to wear in the summer, they can still be styled in various ways to add some new touches to your summer outfits.

The secret is in creativity and experimentation. A colorful, textured scarf can make a fun, interesting headpiece. A plain scarf can be wrapped around the waist to create a unique belt. If your scarf is long enough, you can even wrap it to create an adorable top! The possibilities are just about endless if you are willing to try something new.

Models Nakaja Weaver and Molly Pritchett show off just how many ways scarves can be used in an outfit. Molly rocks a thick wool scarf repurposed to be a summery tube top, while Nakaja uses four different scarves: a headpiece, two for her unique wrapped top and one tied around her hip as a belt. Both models used scarves, yet ended up with completely different and unique outfits suited to their own personal styles.

If you ever feel that your closet is getting old or stale, experimenting by using a garment in the ‘wrong’ season could just be the thing you need to refresh all of your old outfits.
