We all have a pair of staple sunglasses–the glasses we reach for–for our everyday look. There is an occasional switch to a new pair of sunglasses, the pair that frames your outfit just right. You have to have one in every color to match every outfit. What is it about sunglasses that makes an outfit more mysterious, more complete?

Sunglasses were first widely used in Hollywood. Celebrities would use them in an attempt to mask their identity and protect their eyes from the flashing cameras. As celebrities are influential, sunglasses have become more popular and a more common “must have” accessory. As sunglasses become more popular, there are new styles, colors, and trends circulating the sunglasses world. Now, in 2026, sunglasses are still as popular as they were in the ‘20s–as they have doubled as an important fashion accessory and eye protection–when they first started to make their debut in the fashion world.

Some of the sunglasses trends we have seen over the years consist of canny colors, funky frames, and statement styles. In more recent years, Emma Chamberlain has been influential in the popularity of sunglasses as an accessory. She is a YouTube star who quickly rose to fame and became influential in the fashion world. She would display her wardrobe selection and select outfits that have been very influential in current and past fashion trends, paired with sunglasses as a staple accessory. In the time Chamberlain was at her peak, she singlehandedly influenced the popularity of sunglasses and they remain a staple accessory to this day.

In 2024, Chamberlain’s influence reached the attention of Warby Parker, a sunglasses company that she has worn since adolescence, and was offered a sunglasses partnership. Chamberlain came out with a line of four sunglasses, offering various shapes and colors to showcase her own inspirations in her designs.

Sunglasses are not only for convenience, but they are a staple accessory that compliments an outfit. Sunglasses make you feel mysterious, like no one person can see exactly who you are; there is a sense of anonymity when you have a pair of sunglasses on your face. When you take the sunglasses off, and rest them on your head, you have an outfit that is perfectly curated, down to every frame.

Many fashion trends will come and go, but sunglasses are not one of the many that seem to fade away over time. Which pair of sunglasses frame your fit?
