Whether she’s assisting customers in her store, working at a farmer’s market, or parked outside a local business, there’s always a chance to visit Tasha Adams and her plants. Hickory Lane Plants is a local, female-owned plant nursery that will never leave you disappointed. From her adorable green trailer named Lucy, to a newer white truck named Joe, to a full storefront, Hickory Lane has become an essential (and the first mobile) spot for plant people.

After becoming a new mom in 2014, Tasha began her journey of being a caretaker of plants. She saw this as something to look forward to for herself since so much of her time was spent taking care of her children.

“I would buy plants from the death racks of Walmart. For $1 a plant, if I learned how to raise it, awesome. And if I didn’t, then I just took that sacrifice and education and applied it to my next plant,” she said.

As she learned more and more about plants, she began selling them. Using the name of the street they lived on, Hickory Lane Plants was born. Lucy, the trailer, was built in 2019. Then came their decked-out truck named Joe in 2021. Hickory Lane’s third and final location is a store on S. Glenstone and was established fairly recently in January 2022.

Hickory Lane is run by Tasha herself, six additional employees, and her young daughter named Ava who never fails to shower you with compliments. Here you can find around 100 different varieties of plants ranging from easy beginner ones to extremely rare ones. The plants range in price from $4 terrarium plants to an $800 Thai Monstera plant. Hickory Lane strives to cater to any price budget.

“I grew up poor… I understand that. And I also understand the people that have more disposable incomes… So we can cater to both ends of the spectrum.”

Hickory Lane is also a site for about 20 local artists to sell their products. They carry things like macrame plant hangers, pottery, illustration work, tea towels, and much more.

Not only can you go to Hickory Lane to shop, but you can also go attend their classes and workshops. They offer classes to help you with specific plants you’re struggling with, and also ones that teach you how to build your own terrarium. Another service Hickory Lane provides are plant consultations. These are very popular and include Tasha visiting customer’s homes and assisting them with moving their plants to the correct spots in the house, and giving any other advice for successfully raising their plants.

Open every day of the week, Hickory Lane is here when you need help with your plants, feel like adding to your collection, or just need a smile put on your face. You can visit them from 10am-7pm Monday-Friday, 9am-7pm on Saturdays, and 12pm-6pm on Sundays.
