For most women, suits may tend to feel constricting and unflattering. While many women may think looking boxy and masculine is unavoidable when it comes to the professional world, you do not have to make the choice between comfort and fashion. As a woman, the choice to wear a suit tears down the stereotypical rules of how men and women should dress, and historically, they represent freedom and power. From political figure Hillary Clinton’s notorious pant suits to American actor Blake Lively’s red carpet suit ensembles, the art of power dressing plays an important role in empowering women to push the boundaries of fashion in the workplace.

Despite the controversy of women defying traditional views of how men expected them to dress, power suits gave women the opportunity to feel equal and confident in both their work and everyday lives. Suits are becoming more popular than ever in the fashion industry, and they shouldn’t be ignored as they empower women to mirror the male dominated positions and workplaces.

While the progress women have made throughout history with dressing is commendable, it does not eliminate the fact many women are still fearful of looking or feeling masculine, boring, or confined.

Women continue to redefine what it means to wear a suit, and there are plenty of ways to make that pantsuit feel comfortable, feminine, and flattering. Try out a few of our helpful tips to make your own statement while partaking in the art of power dressing.

Go bold or go home

No more boring blacks or grays. Go bold by wearing a suit that’s a pop of color. Bright pinks, purples, and oranges will have that company remembering your presence.

Add a pop of lingerie

Remember there is nothing wrong with feeling sexy! Of course follow the rules of your workplace, but don’t be afraid to throw on a lace top or a sparkly bodysuit underneath to channel your inner diva.

Accessorize

While bags and shoes offer functionality, remember these can help you make a statement. Try out a strappy high heel or an eye catching handbag to bring your suit to the next level.
