Passion and determination sum up Julia Cash’s journey in fashion studies here at Missouri State. Julia is from the town of Grain Valley outside of Kansas City. She has always had a love for fashion and styling but couldn’t always find the pieces she envisioned on a low budget.

During the summer after her first year of college, Julia prepared for her first musical festival. The rave clothes she liked were out of budget, so she tried her hand at sewing. Julia made her first outfit and realized it was really cool and fun. On returning to school in the fall, she immediately switched her major from business to fashion.

Julia has powered through many projects and challenges during her time in college. Julia would frequently find herself pulling all-nighters—even sleeping in the studio in order to meet deadlines. On top of her workload at school and at the Bridal Boutique, Julia has participated in KC Fashion Week, both volunteering and modeling, as well as assisting with previous senior collections.

Julia now describes her personal brand as “colorful, weird, and quirky.” She likes to show some skin and accentuate features of the body, particularly the waist. The inspiration behind her senior collection was a denim suit set from Gucci’s 2016 collection. Julia explains that she admires the way Gucci takes vintage/retro style but makes it modern. Julia uses this technique with her own collection, focusing on colors such as brown and orange.

What’s ahead for Julia? After college she plans to continue making clothes, building her brand, and eventually enter her line in KC Fashion Week. Once things really take off for her, she intends to sell her work on her website, juliacashdesigns.com.
