As we get older, our days become busier and busier, taking away much of our free time. Many college students, or graduates beginning their first corporate jobs, are now dealing with jam-packed schedules for the first time. Not only can juggling all of these responsibilities be challenging, but deciding what to wear may be even harder. Oftentimes, we are unable to change wardrobes between our daily commitments. Finding an outfit that is appropriate for a variety of activities is an important part of combating this struggle.
Although this task may seem intimidating, it is much simpler than one may think. Layering, styling, and overall creativity within outfits are key parts of accomplishing this. One may start their day in the office or on a college campus in an outfit that is appropriate for such a setting, yet end the day in a completely new outfit without hardly adding any new accessories or clothing items. There are many ways we can bend the rules a bit and use once conventionally worn items in completely different ways. The scarf worn to keep warm over office-appropriate attire on the way into work could be later worn as a headscarf or blouse to a cocktail bar with friends. A midi skirt worn to a meeting with a higher-up can be transitioned into a mini skirt for a birthday dinner with friends. Layer a nice sweater or plaid button-up over a casual graphic tee, appropriate to wear at a hangout with friends, for a day in the office, or to class. Bringing separate accessories, such as bags, belts, hats, shoes, and jewelry, is a great way to transform an outfit once worn during a professional day, now being worn to a night’s event or casual get-together.
There are many easy workarounds to a tight schedule that does not allow for a change in attire. Struggling with finding ways to not only stay appropriately dressed for the events we attend, while staying true to personal style, is one that many face. Finding innovative ways to wear pieces we already own is key to creating an outfit that can transition with the wearer throughout a busy day. Adhering to personal style and thinking of new ways to wear existing pieces in one’s closet are important to accomplishing the “anywhere outfit.”
