A Rewind with Reset
From his basement to a 930 sq ft retail store, as you step inside the doors of Reset you'll quickly realize you're not in your everyday boutique. After facing numerous difficulties, Bruce Schwerdt opened up a vintage collectibles shop in downtown Maplewood, Missouri to offer unique products. With the setback of City Hall not wanting the retail space to be used for a clothing store, thrift store, or a consignment shop, that did not stop Bruce from opening the store in his chosen location.
“We had to go to like three city council meetings to give a presentation as to why we should be allowed to have the space” said Bruce adding, “I love St. Louis, I have always lived here and I am not one of those people who wants to get out or hates it” and credited the developing state of the city.
Bruce recalls “thrifting before the stupid Macklemore song” and how thrifting has changed since he first entered the scene. Bruce also mentioned how there are many benefits to thrifting like saving clothes from mills, finding discounted clothing, and being able to save a piece of pop culture history. With over 16 years of thrifting and ebay experience Bruce has turned Reset into a unique experience, with a very strong presence of vintage and second hand clothes. He also mixes in some of today's hottest brands and styles for both men and women. You will never get bored thumbing through the racks because new merchandise flows through the doors regularly. They thrift a portion of the merchandise and buy gems from customers that might not have been seen for decades. You may be even lucky enough to find those new pair of yeezys you were looking for.
By doing so they also create an ever changing environment that is refreshing and brings life and excitement into the store with the prospect of the big find. With such a variety of clothing there is a piece inside of Reset to fit any budget from the ten dollar t-shirt rack all the way up to more extravagant several hundred dollar pieces. If you're feeling lucky, maybe even a couple plays on the key master.
Since opening Reset in June of 2017, the store has seen substantial support from not only the St. Louis community but Ebay as well. So much so, Bruce was happy to inform Sartorial of the 600-700 sq ft expansion of the store into the neighboring building with plans to add more retail space and an Ebay studio. This will almost double the size of the store allowing for the faster processing of Ebay items. When asked what's next for Reset, Bruce hinted at “Opening a store outside of St. Louis, that is nowhere near our first location”.
