Blazers, trousers, and turtleneck sweaters all have one thing in common. Throughout recent fashion history, they have been classic wardrobe staples. The reason? Their classic tailoring and versatility. These items have long withstood the test of time even amid a culture where microtrends move at the speed of light.

Investing in these tried-and-true wardrobe items will elevate your everyday looks.

An oversized menswear blazer can instantly elevate nearly any look. Pair a tweed or wool blazer with a cable-knit sweater vest dress for an updated version of a sweater + blazer combo. A pair of knee-high boots will provide a certain edge for the otherwise classic outfit.

A well-fitting pair of trousers is essential to creating a timeless-looking outfit. Opt for neutral colors such as brown, beige, black, or navy to provide a solid foundation for the look. If you prefer patterns, try a plaid trouser in a small print. A small print will add visual interest to an outfit without taking away attention from any larger patterns or graphics worn on top.

A turtleneck is the perfect shirt for layering in the colder months. White, black, or brown turtlenecks can be worn underneath sweaters or blazers for a cozy yet professional look.

Similarly, collared shirts tend to always have an air of professionalism, but they don’t need to be boring. Collared sweaters are a modern adaptation of the tried-and-true button-up blouse. Unlike the blouse, these collared sweaters can be worn in a multitude of settings. They are casual enough to be dressed down with a pair of jeans, but can also be a trendier option for a workplace setting.

Nearly all of these items can be found at your local thrift store. They are timeless and can be considered wardrobe basics so they are readily available at thrift and antique stores. Stores like H&M also tend to have this style of clothing.

Put your own flair on these classic staples by incorporating unique accessories and trendy pieces along with the rest of the outfit.
