We’ve all seen someone walking down the street wearing something designer. Whether that be Louis Vuitton, the iconic Gucci belt or Chanel, a designer item is something many people strive to own. However, truly capturing the style and image of that designer is a whole different level of fashion. With this Gucci-inspired shoot, we really wanted to capture what Gucci is all about. Cassidy Leighty and I put our heads together and grabbed things that we and the people around us already owned and styled outfits that we thought portrayed the Gucci style.

Gucci is all about layering and matching pieces that you wouldn’t normally wear together. Layering different patterns and colors is something that they do quite often, so we knew that we needed to put aside our instinct to match and make these outfits memorable. Gucci’s Spring 2021 Ready-to-Wear Collection was reminiscent of the 80s and 90s and also had very feminine outfits, and we wanted to capture that feeling. I think Cassidy and I would agree that our favorite part of the shoot was putting our male model in a skirt. It perfectly displayed that feminine style.

Using clothes from the closets around us was a challenge at times because Gucci runway designer clothing isn't something you see people wearing everyday, especially on a college campus. The experience of making this vision come to life was one of the best feelings. It really challenged us as stylists to go against our everyday instincts and think outside the box to create something iconic. Creating designer Gucci looks from your everyday wardrobe isn't impossible. You’ve just got to know how to think creatively!
