5 Social Distancing Snacks

Morgan Carleton

*The following article is about snacks. However, if you have not gone to the grocery store lately and have shown symptoms or are immunocompromised please reach out to peers to do your grocery shopping for you. Some of us in Sartorial are still in Springfield and would love to help those in need. Don’t hesitate to message our Instagram account for help obtaining groceries.*

As of now, most are social distancing, self-isolating, or quarantined due to COVID-19. All of us are hiding away indoors doing what we can for society, so how are we going to do the most for ourselves during this time? Through everyone’s guilty pleasure - snacks.

Most of us are already missing out on old comforts and the last thing we want is to be snacking on saltines. So let’s not be stingy for the moment, after all, food is the ultimate comfort. This is why we have put together a list of our favorite snacks to make this period of self-isolation into a food retreat.

Do you know those days when you go to a nice restaurant and order a charcuterie board and feel like a queen overlooking a meadow in Italy? Yes, that is a feeling we all need to hold onto at this time. So that leads us to our first snack, an at-home charcuterie board. A charcuterie board includes your favorite cheeses, bread, crackers, fruit, and a variety of meats. Here is a link to one of our favorite charcuterie board recipes. https://mystylevita.com/easy-way-create-perfect-charcuterie-board/

The next snack that we all love is homemade nachos. I could not find a great recipe online so I decided to share my own.

To begin your new favorite nachos you will, of course, start with tortilla chips. Lay your tortilla chips down on a baking sheet and sprinkle some shredded cheese on top, you can find a Mexican blend at any grocery store. If you are into spicy food, throw a few jalapenos on there. Next, bake the tortilla chips and cheese at 350 for five to ten minutes. Once the cheese has melted over the chips take them out of the oven and pour your favorite queso on top. These nachos are a cheesy, wonderful, mess.

For the nights ahead of laying on your couch and binge-watching Netflix, you will probably be in the mood for something you can just grab and begin snacking on. We all love that perfect mixture of sweet and salty which is why we have linked a trail mix recipe below. The perfect late-night snack awaits.

Now for the sweet tooth, we can’t ignore that one. One personal favorite is chocolate chip cookies. Chocolate chip cookies are easily obtained and can be found premade while only needing to be heated up in the oven, or in a box with all those ingredients already included. However, we still wanted to give all you bakers out there a tasty, easy recipe to make your own.

Last but not least is a snack for creative eaters. Thai cuisine is a delicacy but that does not mean you can’t bring it into your own kitchen. So why not try making spring rolls?  While this snack may be a bit trickier, I promise the outcome is worth it. Check out the link below to take a chance at making your own spring rolls with less than 10 ingredients.
